Hip Hop Weekend PortraitsPrevious years Hip Hop Weekend (malmö dance week) have covered different portraits of international artists visiting the festival. An initiative to highlight some of the people in the culture. Last year we reached out to the incredible dancer and photographer Sophie Trace May, asking her to shoot analog portraits of Brian Polite, King Charles and Esta Kirabo, which, in our opinion, turned out fantastic. In addition to the photos, interviews have also been conducted with all three.We have now teamed up with Art pop up Malmö for a special Exhibition showcasing both the portraits and the written interviews.

we asked Sophie to bring some of her own works from the exhibition Connecting Dots.

Connecting dotsConnecting Dots is a set of four photographic series shot with a cinematographic approach, illustrating different aspects of the artist’s growth through childhood, solitude & love. She sees it as a map to help her figure herself out and a love letter to her journey.

Pluridisciplinary artist from Martinique Island, Sophie May draws inspiration from a diverse range of artistic circles.

Her journey began with dancing, but various jobs and experiences have allowed her to discover herself through artistic direction, directing, and photography, for which she has developed a passion.Sophie May’s singularity and sensitivity shine through in every piece she creates, leaving a lasting impression on all who experience her work.She aspires to bring her reflections to life the rawest way possible by combining her knowledge & skills into her craft, no matter the form.
